Re: Bracer kit from Weaver Leather Supply
I've always been one for saving money and getting the best product possible, and no point in not passing such ability on to those here, after all...we are a fellowship here. *grins*

Re: Bracer kit from Weaver Leather Supply
Awesome resource. I already own everything in the package except the leather, and I usually get mine from Tandy, but the video will be handy when it's time to make my own bracers. Rob might try getting your leather from www.springfieldleather.com that's where I've been getting stuff from lately, no...

Re: Keeping ourselves honest...
well, if you're looking at making and don't want to hand stitch everything, I did find a hand crank cobbler's sewing machine on amazon for reasonable money that I can post a link to, I was looking at getting it for t he making of my own boots.

Re: Keeping ourselves honest...
[quote="Ursus"](snip) Boots: Like others I would rather have a bit more traction via hobnails or some such. Anybody got a source for purchase there? I haven't tried these yet, but they appear to be fairly well constructed, and would be something I would use on the boots I'm currently makin...

Re: Keeping ourselves honest...
if it's because I have some sort of vital information, then it becomes a matter of evasion and survival, minimal gear used, ditch anything and everything that's going to just slow you down, bury it in a cache to hopefully come back for later. your best bet isn't to troop around carrying all sorts of...

I would also suggest looking at historical references for layers, if you're looking to go the gambeson route, there's some good materials here on the site and upon request I can go digging through all of my reference links for things too.

Found this on YT. Boromir bracers build.
Thought this might prove useful for some folks, it's a fella putting together a set of Boromir's bracers, rather like the idea of it myself.

Re: Beware the Mops and Sociopaths.
possibly having a list of suggested order to get kit items in might be good, since if someone new to this gets, oh say, their boots last and immediately goes out without breaking them in on a day hike...well...that could be bad for them continuing to do this as it would discourage further such pract...

Re: Boot making in progress.
I have decided to pick up in the near future a hand crank cobbler's stitching machine as that will make this a bit easier of a process, and I believe it would be well within the technical abilities of Middle Earth, and it will take some of the strain of hand sewing off of my back and shoulders.

Re: Boot making in progress.
I'm not actually using a pattern, I took measurements and am making it up as I go. difficult and problematic, but it will get the best fit in the end I feel. As for the tools I need, I'm currently needing something that can give a consistent arc as well as a tool that can cut on said arc better than...
