Re: Many ways to carry stuff - Experimentation

That is amazingly well done! So cool to see what you've done with the strap system, it's very well laid out, and matches the aesthetic of the rest of your kit. I like what you did with tapering the dilly bag to combat the bunching up of the thicker material. Likewise the reshaping of the base of the...

Re: What about a bit of rope? You'll want it, if you haven't got it: Well, I'll want it.

Between this post and Iodo’s post about her fid that she made, I got inspired to dig up the 50’ of Manila rope I’ve had sitting around unopened for the past...six? years? I wanted to make some replacement tie ropes for my blanket roll, since paracord really doesn’t fit the 3rd age terribly w...

Re: Rangers report!

I’m alternating weeks of working from home with weeks of unpaid furlough right now, so I’ve been keeping busy with various projects. Going through a lot of my kit and seeing what I like, what works, and what I’d like to change. As I rummage through my basement, I keep finding things I’d forg...

Thanks guys! It was a fun project! I’ve already started
One for myself, lol. Here’s the video I shot of it, if anyone is interested.

Re: Starting to Assemble a Dwarven Toolkit

Neat! I’m going to have to give that a go as well! As for the fid, perhaps heating it to discolor it some? You could also slide a steel rod inside it, then tap the outside with the ball of a ball peen hammer to give it a more worked appearance. I’m guessing roughing up the surface too much would...

Nalbinding Needle

My mother in law requested a Nalbinding needle for Christmas, but I wasn’t able to locate my piece of cow bone in time to make it for her. Better late than never! A64B1420-5AA7-4837-84A7-0097B1906280.jpeg I made this out of a piece that I cut from a cow femur. I’ve had it sitting around since I ...

I'm quite jealous of your custom one though, what is it's poundage?
The draw weight is 65 pounds at 28 inches, but the pull is remarkably smooth!

Sorry for the necro post here, but I finally got some video up of this how in action, and I had to share!

She is a joy to use, though a bear to string, lol.

Re: Let's Talk about Legs!

An interesting thought for the hive mind: If one of Dunedain persuasion were wearing such a shortened pair of "pants" as described and pictured above, it would be a rather simple task of removing the tall boots and wool hose beneath to wade across a stream without soaking the footwear, am...

Re: Starting to Assemble a Dwarven Toolkit

I love this! Not sure if anyone has brought it up before, but one thing you could consider adding is a stump anvil (like this https://www.oldworldanvils.com/stump-anvil-set) for metal working. Since you drive the spike into a tree before working, it is actually a rather solid work surface. I have on...

Re: A Ranger and her lyre...dressed funny. ;)

My son was talking about harps last night. He had made a play one with Popsicle sticks and rubber bands (they're studying the Celts in history right now, and it was a craft he'd done) and was playing it for me, when I mentioned that I knew someone who played. We pulled up these videos, and he was co...

The main advantages of a composite bow are the shorter overall length, and in general a higher arrow speed. You can also leave them strung for much longer periods of time without them taking a set.

Re: In breathless Anticipation

Wow, very nice. Will you be shooting it with or without a ring? When do you get it? I'll probably do both. I've never used a thumb ring before, so I will probably practice with some of my other bows before I try it with this one! She's going to be in Mongolia another week, so it will be at least th...
