In breathless Anticipation

So, brief background on this picture. My mother-in-law is currently in Mongolia, teaching English to members of the government/military. When she was getting ready to go, she asked if there was anything that I wanted from Mongolia while she was there. I jokingly responded, "A Mongolian bow.&quo...

Re: Beware the Mops and Sociopaths.

I've been reading through everyone's responses...it actually sounds much like we're all on the same page, and simply putting our thoughts in varying levels of 'delicate'. I like what Taurinor suggested about having a more specific sub-forum for welcomes. Perhaps some form of that, with or without t...

A few things I've been up to

Greetings all! I have not been actively involved in the conversations of late. Life/New job has been keeping me pretty busy, but I'm getting to the point where I have more time again, so of course I had to come back here! I wanted to jump back in with a few projects I've done in the past year. First...

Re: On Silence

It made me think of this poem by Wendell Berry. I was going to post it yesterday, but couldn't remember the title. "When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake ...

Re: On Silence

Elleth,

I'm not sure if anyone has told you this or not, but your ability to describe something is downright poetic. I was completely transported into the moment, thank you for that!

Re: Dwarven Bounder?

I know I'm really late to the game on this one, but I'm really surprised that no one brought up the dwarves song from the Unexpected Party, which says (I believe in verse two and I think I have these words correct I'm typing from memory) "The dwarves of yore made mighty spells, while hammers fe...

Here is the one I use, teaches you to make a flemish twist bowstring. It has good written instructions as well as video.

Re: 3-D archery targets

I made my archery backstop (which I ended up just using as a target) by cutting all the cross pieces off of a pallet save the ones on the ends, wrapping the whole pallet in some old carpet that I had sitting around, and then stuffing the void in the middle with shrink wrap that we take off the boxes...

Re: Has anyone made a coiled straw archery target?

I found an online copy of the book in question (published in 1939) here:
https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id= ... 1up;seq=15 Page 311 is where the part on making the target starts, but the whole book is golden. Talks about bow making, arrow making, general archery practice, etc.

Re: Has anyone made a coiled straw archery target?

I have an old (early 1900s) archery book that has detailed instructions for making one of these, I need to dig it out and see if I can post pictures up of that chapter, or at the very least type out the instructions. If I remember correctly, they used a piece of 1/4" bar stock and drilled a hol...

Re: Waterproofing Leather?

I've always used a product called Sno Seal. It's not period correct, but it works really well. I use it on almost all of my leather goods. Here's a link to the product page if you're interested. http://www.amazon.com/Atsko-Sno-Seal-Or ... B00O9OA01W
