Re: Show Me Your Hot Kits

I'll assume you mean warm weather kit. The picture of me on the bearskin rug, didn't go over so well the last time! :P

Re: Ranger pack

I still have a canvas dropcloth/tent mentioned about 1/2 way down this old thread. http://www.ranger.budgetauthenticity.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=114&hilit=bedroll When I originally posted this I was using a wool blend emergency blanket. I subsequently got the red 100% wool blanket so if...

Re: Ranger pack

I dug out some old pics of my basic pack from a defunct computer. Downloaded to a thumb drive, uploaded to the current computer, and found out the files were too large. Bumped them over to imgur and hopefully they will come out: 1st pick is the pack itself. It's an old military pack I painted a brow...

Re: What's everyone working on?

I've done some with soft liners, hard plastic liners (hard to find these days) and Grolsch Beer Bottles. The Grolsch bottles have a spring/ceramic cap, so their easy to make. I made a tutorial on here almost 20 years ago and another good thing is you can generally buy them from a beer/soda distribut...

Re: Ranger pack

Andy, What are the two arrows outside the quiver for? Are they field points and hunting heads stay in the quiver? Hey Peter, the arrows in the quiver are field tips or bodkins. The arrows on the outside are broad head hunting tips. The shearling inside the quiver is great for keeping the arrows sti...

Re: Thinking About the Bowie Knife

I'm aware of the debate regarding the bowie knife. Please note I said "before Jim Bowie made it famous.". There was no substantial evidence that a blacksmith named James Black even existed when and where he was reported to.

Re: Thinking About the Bowie Knife

I like both of your points. To your point, Yavion: this is only a thought experiment, like a "what if Halbarad was dropped into 1856 Dodge City and was forced to adapt, would he go for the bowie knife or something else" sort of thinking. I'm not gonna add a bowie knife to my ranger kit, d...

Re: Beorning Honey Cakes

If you reduce the eggs by 1/2 and add another 4 tablespoons of honey and lay off the baking powder, you'll get a more condensed and slightly sweeter version. Instead of a cake, you'll get more of a cookie which takes up a lot less volume in your pack.

Re: New Kingston Arms swords!

Nice! I like the looks of the Type XIV. The belt designs look interesting, but the leather is too thin.
