Re: GoT - Northerners' recurve bow?

My Scythian horse bow is my absolute favorite. It is much smaller than the longbows I have, yet it packs equal punch. Mine is 50# at 28", like most of my others. Best used with a thumb ring, although I can and do use the three finger draw with it. Great for thick brush and tight places. :) Eled...

That's a lovely little harp - who was the maker?
The maker was Hummingbird. Long since out of business. This was the first harp I ever owned, bought back in...mmmm, '89 if memory serves. :) I purchased her at Folk Mote Music in Santa Barbara. Long time ago.

Re: Druid-Harper Eledhwen

These days Harpists are pretty much professional players. Used to be specific to classic pedal harp players. Hasn't' been for a lot of years. I don't use Bard here as that is part of my Druid training and for me it doesn't really fit. Harper fits much better and the Elvish word for one is 'Nandaro'....

Re: Druid-Harper Eledhwen

The two are not necessarily the same, although most folk think so. I have completed the Bard Grade of the OBOD, the Ovate Grade, an Archdruid of the AODA, a Sister of Avalon. I am a Druid, a Bard, an Ovate, and a Priestess. I chose 'Harper' as I am not a 'Harpist', and I don't like the way people co...

Re: Druid-Harper Eledhwen

Those stones are part of the Sunwheel at UMASS in Amherst, MA. My former astronomy professor visited a Medicine Wheel in Montana. When she came back she got the site and funds, much of which came from Pagans, and built this Sunwheel. She passed away a few years ago, leaving it unfinished....she inte...

This morning.

From this morning. Brown wool hood, felted brown wool hat, linen coif, black linen tunic. Pewter hunting badge. I was out harvesting vegetables from our garden. Not the most glorious work, yet necessary, and pleasant in its own way. I had my 'market bag' that I used for the gathering of a load of po...

Re: Movie ithilien ranger “shoetoppers”

The Marines called them 'leggings'. I have a pair. They are khaki canvas, lace up the side. They have a strap that goes under the foot in front of the heel. They work an absolute charm for hiking. Leggings in a variety of forms have been around since the paleolithic. Generally without the underfoot ...

Re: Goblins: Homo Sapiens Eldarensis-Yrchi or Australopithecus Yrchi?

For my part, I go with the Silmarillion. "But of those unhappy ones who were ensnared by Melkor little is known of a certainty. For who of the living has descended into the pits of Utumno, or has explored the darkness of the counsels of Melkor? Yet this is held true by the wise of Eressëa, tha...

I don't know if the bits from milling are useful. If you have enough of it, put it in hot soapy water and add a bit a lanolin, give your hands and fingers the workout of their life, you might could felt it. Carrying spear and bow...sling the bow in its sock, carry the spear. I also have a bearded ax...

Learn something new every day. I did not know that hat was called a bycocket hat. :) Unlike the real thing though, this one had no brim at all. It started as a simple head cover with uneven edges. I turned up one end, trimmed them a bit, pinned it and wet it down to massage the felt back into itself...

I have no idea on the spear head. Friend of mine gave it to me at one Pennsic war. Don't know the origin.

This is mostly medieval hunting kit. However, I suspect it would not be out of place in Middle Earth either. I put it here as it contains soft kit and weapons together. Missing from this, for the moment, bearded axe, scramaseax, belt pouches. At some point, when the weather cools, I will get some pi...

Re: Weapons of choice

I can carry a wide variety of weapons, from long knives to longswords, from horsebows to longbows. That said, the single-hand sword is my preference, and of those, the shortsword best of all. I have a leaf blade I've been working into a good Numenorean shortsword. I usually have a belt axe and a kni...
