Re: Mary Rose Arrow spacer (first attempt at cuir boili)
Shiny job! These rock! I have made a lot of them. I use water hardening instead of wax for mine....wax acts like a lubricant making the leather very easy to cut with a sharp blade. Plain boiling water achieves the same effect in hardening and then can be treated with a beeswax/tallow dubbin. I use t...

Re: Has anyone made a coiled straw archery target?
I made a cloth tube stitched around a brass hoop, got some net makers twine and a sailmakers needle, and started working on one last year. It is still out there, about half done. It works. I am certain it isn't the right way to do it, although it does work.
Good luck.

Re: Renaissance style guitar
Yes, Musicmakers is where I got my lyre kit, as well as a bowed psaltery kit. Also hardware for a large hammered dulcimer and a harp. I don't get the kits any longer these days, although I do get their hardware pretty often. The only kit I'd really consider getting now is the hurdy-gurdy....expensiv...

Re: A Case for Back Quivers
On the whole, I agree. I have no problem with back quivers in Tolkien. As far as swords and knives being known as hanging at the belt...have you been to any LARPs lately? Huge numbers of people strap their sword(S) to their back. Since the movies, knives too. Hehehehehe Probably wasn't the case back...

Calanbar/Calanbari
So. Taur'Amandil...Forest Folk of Aman. After perusing my Elvish sources and contemplating the way words flow, I changed the term for Druids to 'Green Dwellers', or 'Dwellers of the Green'. That comes out to 'Calan' (green), and 'Bar' (to dwell). This flows much better, I think, and works well to bo...

Re: Bedrolls (again!)
I used to use a single, thick, green wool blanket with a kind of tarp that doubled as a mattress once the bottom was stuff with leaves and whatnot. I do not do that in this part of the world any longer, although I still have it. I think I did a kind of tutorial on it long ago, although I am not cert...

Re: Bows of Middle Earth - what's really right?
I use a lot of different bows...due to loving archery. Most of them are 'D' section traditional longbows and most of those have horn nocks. I also have some flat bows. However, the bow I have been using most recently and which is my absolute favorite bow, is the Scythian composite bow. A horn bow, i...

Re: Sssooo... Dungeons and Dragons?
I started with Original D&D, way back in '74..one of my friends had one of the first runs and we played it during free time in the Corps. Those little booklets lent themselves well to deployments, yep. I have every edition save the Fourth...that one was not, is not, and in my opinion, never was,...

More on the changes...
Would folk be interested in occasional photos, video clips, and commentaries on things like making of essential oils, balms, salves, tinctures, and related things? We also brew. Anyway, they are all going to be included in the Loremaster activities I am working through. Some folk were interested in ...

Re: Change is the only constant.
Thanks guys. :) I don't need encouragement really, I'm just a realist. Interests change, concerns about falling and breaking a hip are real, if not likely. I won't stop shooting archery, tracking, trailing, hunting, etc. However, more and more the pursuits of the Loremaster are ascendant. As for mot...

Change is the only constant.
I am 60. I do not look it, I do not act it. There are people here older than I. Yet I have a LOT of mileage on this chassis. A great deal more than most folk I meet. Sometimes I feel it. These days I walk with a staff more than anything else. A simple weapon, aye, yet also more than that...it helps ...
