Re: Cloaks

Pfft...heck if I know what it is. It's some kind of heavy cotton duck or something like that. Almost canvas, but not quite. Got it cheap from periodfabrics.com

Re: Music

My favorite campfire instrument, my Uilleann Pipes (pronounced Ill-an...it's gaelic) are a royal pain in the butt to haul around if you bring the whole set, drones and all. They're heavy by bagpipe standards, and they're ridiculously heavy by ranger's pack standards. Here's what a full set looks lik...

Re: New Water Bottle, Blowing Horn...and other new stuff...

They certainly looked awesome, but I'm looking for something thicker, most likely in wool. Thanks for the link, though.

Re: Carolinas

Seriously this would be my first overnight as I'm a city boy born and raised. My uncle who was an avid outdoorsman passed away when I was 10. With him ended my education in matters such as these. If you guys don't mind having someone as wet behind the ears as I am tagging along I'd be honored. I'd ...

Re: New Water Bottle, Blowing Horn...and other new stuff...

Leather kneepads may be what I wind up doing...the pants'll probably end up being wool. I won two full mule deer hides on ebay today for less than $15 each (AND got the shipping costs combined...yay!), so I'll be working on some more cold weather gear this coming week after they've arrived. The scra...

Re: Carolinas

Eric, we dwarves are wasted on cross-country. Being natural sprinters, we're VERY dangerous over short distances.

Re: First Annual Ranger Photo Contest

Excellent, Frothgar and David! Four more days, people! When I get back from the Lake on Wednesday evening, I'll be watching for final entries. At 12 pm my time (since none of you are further east than David, Cedric, and I) I'm going to make a final post in this thread singnifying the end of the cont...

Re: Carolinas

I dont own it, but its in the family, however while its a short hike it is steep and somewhat thickety but it opens up further down the bluff to the river. Lots of rock formations, some fairly large timber and river front, its a haul, but thats probably the best I can offer. I'll take some pics goi...

Re: Carolinas

I know SOMEONE here owns a fair tract of land. I don't want to volunteer anyone, but if anyone owns something substantial enough to simple have a place where we could all camp for a night without seeing any buildings that you're willing to donate to the cause for a weekend, that'd be fantastic.

Re: Carolinas

Wow. This all sure started happening fast. I don't know much about the logistics of where I'd be flying into or anything like that...any local airports I should be looking at? For that matter, are we all cool with using R.D.'s location? Does anyone else want to throw out some suggestions? R.D...you ...

Re: Carolinas

I'd like to basically do a short trek to a place where no one's going to be exhausted or overly-taxed from the hike, where there's plenty of room to use wasters and the like, where we can all share ideas, sit around a fire, shoot some arrows into some burlap, swap wild recipes, talk survival techniq...
