What's your poison on hemming?

Fold Over, Blanket stitch, wool tape, something else?

Re: Buckskin - what cultures use it?

The young man with the braided lasso and the fellow with the pipe are great inspiration. Did you ever make progress on your 'pan-Northern' design language? I could easily see these decorated with some authentic M-e motifs. That looks really functional, although many have said the leather, while it ...

Re: Buckskin - what cultures use it?

Here are some other Siberian and Russian Far Eastern peoples that I am thinking about as models for Lossoth clothing.

Re: Buckskin - what cultures use it?

What type of clothing are you thinking of making in leather? Whole kit and caboodle? Trousers, tunic, and cloak? Just the cloak? Just the tunic? That could help narrow it down. I know of at least one animal skin cloak and if I remember correctly, some fragments that have been interpreted as a tunic...

Buckskin - what cultures use it?

This last winter’s -44° campout with my scout troop has me wondering if I could do it it Middle Earth gear. Pondering a lossoth kit. Thinking of melding aspects of Mongol & Yupik dress. Historically, do any old world cultures use leather as primary clothing? It seems that the Sami did, but not i...

Re: "Unpacked" Video Series

Very nice! I especially liked the glassware - a nice callback to the glass windows of Bree. Also... wait. When/where is that picture of St. John from? The gourd water bottle is interesting! I'd always binned those as New-World-possibly-by-way-of-Africa but never looked closely into their ...

I like the yoke pole/walking staff..... So many ideas to steal....... errm......Collect
No theft necessary, it's not my idea. It is a standard feature of the medieval pilgrim staff. Also where I got the idea for carrying my cauldron.

That has to be the most authentic kit I've ever seen. Well done.
Wow, thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I have had more than a little imposter syndrome making this video.

Thinking of Breeish kit, and I’m kinda considering making an antler toggle boar spear. Has anyone got thoughts or experience on these beasts?

Forum going down for Maintenance 5/4/2022 - 5/6/2022

Hey guys, I just got a note from the Ranger Forum’s hosting service. A major update will be taking the service offline at 11pm EDT tonight and will last two days. Something of this magnitude speaks to a serious issue. I am taking a full backup right now. If the forum is down till the sixth, don’t wo...

... and by "diapering" do you mean the way the knotwork interlaces, like the leather stitching across the top of your pouch? I have more thought on the other stuff here, but little time. Yes, like the leather stitch on pouches. It's a standard Norse motif in the 8-12th centuries. Here are...

Re: Numenorean design motifs

So I'm thinking of design elements that Third Age people might see and copy. We do have three things from Tolkien. The white tree, the throne, and Crown of Gondor. Will be pondering this for a while. Anyway, what is the bottom section of the crown sketch? Is it hair or the back of a helm? crown of g...

Re: Numenorean design motifs

My thought was to get away from the standard Tree (too Gondorian) and Star (already well represented). Amen. Another thing to remember is that the White Tree was reserved for the tower guard, it wasn't everywhere. And the Dunedain star? We don't know what it represented. But it's entirely likely it...
