Re: Camping tri-pods, utensils?
Okay guys, I got a couple prototypes done. The first one is a closed loop design, doesn't really fold together close for transport or be converted to a spit. It stands about waist high. http://i700.photobucket.com/albums/ww1/absilits/camp%20tools/DSCN0010.jpg http://i700.photobucket.com/albums/ww1/a...

Re: Camping tri-pods, utensils?
My trekking kit can't really afford the addition of something so large as a tripod and a spit, but for the occasional group moot, it's crossed my mind that one could be useful. Any word on price range? Well, what got us to seriously thinking about selling these is that we saw a booth that had tripo...

Re: Camping tri-pods, utensils?
The tripods, when set up, will stand between 3' to 4' above the fire. We can also make them bigger or smaller. Right now we're expirementing with a design to where you can take the tripod apart and use it as a spit. I'll post a pic when I get time, may be toward the weekend though.

Camping tri-pods, utensils?
Hey fellas, got a question. My dad and I are considering making up a bunch of blacksmith made camping tripods and/or spits, forks, spoons, etc. I don't have any pictures yet, got too dark tonight. I was just wondering whether any of you folks would be interested in picking one up. Just gauging inter...

Instead of copper inlay, how about darking it then doing the inlay in nickel silver. YOu can get the inlay wire in many black powder online sites.
Heck yeah, that's a good idea. And fairly cheap too.

Re: Old Norse Style Axe
Stupid quetion... What's the hammery bit on the back for? I was puzzling that a couple weekends ago. Kiriana pretty much nailed it....pun intended. :P Most of the axes used by axes were multi purpose axes, not just for battle. For instance, this type is often associated with ship building. The axe ...

Re: Old Norse Style Axe
Thanks fellas, I appreciate the compliments. As for the price, I've given someone first dibbs on this one. If they're not interested, I'll be listing it for $135 plus shipping. I generally ask for more on my pieces, but given my current finances I'd like a quick sale.

Re: Old Norse Style Axe
I've found that a craftsman can not be complimented more highly than with a simple "How much?" I'm never going to look at a Ball-Peen the same way again, by the way. lol Greg, actually the highest compliment a craftsman can be given is "money is no object", second is "how m...

Old Norse Style Axe
First off, sorry for the poor pictures, I did them with my cell. I was planning to take better shots, but I didn't have time to get the camera out before it got dark. This is made out of a 32oz ball peen. Here's a look into my process during the intial rough forge/grinding stage. http://i700.photobu...

Good catch Ken. It says they'll be recreating the Ulfbert. I am looking forward to watching this; T.V. is sadly lacking in worthy programs these days.

Re: New thrown weapons target to be Standard for Trimaris
Actually, it's one center 4x4. Kinda like the one in this video; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCfBdknOcyw But you attach your target face to it. You'd be surprised how sturdy it is. And yeah, a 3x3 face would be a bit big, but if I recall correctly that was what the amateur targets were at one of ...

Re: New thrown weapons target to be Standard for Trimaris
I've been thinking about making a standard target design for some time now. My idea was to take a sword cutting stand and adapt it to a throwing target as well. Basicly take a 4x4 about 4' tall, with legs that fold up and down for easy transport. To make it universal, take a piece of plywood about 3...

Re: New thrown weapons target to be Standard for Trimaris
I mean aboslutely no offense by what I'm about to say; but man, that is way over engineered.
Rope, rebar, screwheads, the sheer cost of 2x4" boards and bolts/nut, damn. That's a lot work and money. May I make a suggestion?
