Re: First project post - Costrel!

I bookmarked that thread for more in depth review.

Unfortunately, no I didn't turn the plug myself. A friend of mine did several of them for me. I need a lathe so I can start doing them myself.

Re: First project post - Costrel!

Thanks all! I've actually made several of these over the years, all hand stitched, and they just keep getting better.

Re: First project post - Costrel!

I realized I don't have a volume measuring device in my pantry, so I eyeballed it and was pleased to find that it holds a 750ml bottle of wine at about 2/3 full. I'll have to get an exact measurement at some point, but I'm confident it's a full liter.

First project post - Costrel!

I'm awful when it comes to 'in progress' pictures. I get too caught up in my projects. That said, this one isn't quite done. I still need to add the strap.

Re: Simple and cheap eating knife

HA! I was thrift store hunting for an upcoming trek and was specifically wondering how best to go about altering some modern utensils. This is excellent!

Re: Hats

One of my hobbies is millinery. This has been a fantastic thread. I feel I need to come up with something different for my ranger headgear than what I currently have. With inspiration from here and a fair amount of research, we'll see what kind of trouble I can get into!

Hail, and well met! Not to parrot the sentiment of others, but I, too, am really impressed by your garb. Having just started putting mine together, I can only hope to look as good, one day. Also, I love the statement "Knowledge weighs nothing"! I might have to abscond with that one. *edit ...

Re: Rope?

I'm with RikJohnson on this one. Using natural rope for binding a pack roll and various other things is great, and I love the aesthetic, but I won't go out in the wild without something I know can carry my weight in an emergency.

Re: ARROWS AND HOOKS

Agreed. As much as I am a fan of asking forgiveness instead of permission, with these kind of issues it's best to be up front with the local Rangers. Most figure that if you were going to be poaching, you wouldn't bother giving them a heads up.

Too right! My boys are with me this week, so that's going to have to wait until they go back to there mom. I love every minute I have with them, but 'taking my time' is not an option as a single father. Haha!

Re: New Ranger. New bow.

I certainly don't need to gain poundage. I haven't done archery in years (with the exception of a couple nights with M.) and I think it's a good place to start getting those muscles back in shape. So I decided to go with a linen, and after researching it on several bowyer site/forums, I'm planning o...

Re: Turning from the bar.

Thanks for the welcome, fellows! I'm already hip deep in projects and once I get going, I'll start posting more. Dividing ones time between reading the forum and running off to make/do the things I've read about is...well, consuming. Ha!

New Ranger. New bow.

I'd love some advice, perspective, suggestions and what ever else anyone can offer. I just bought a longbow from these folks...https://www.etsy.com/search?q=Ringing%20Rocks%20Archery. It's a 71" hickory, with a 35-40lb. 32inch draw. I'm experienced with wood and leather working (my great-grandf...
