In your final piece, will the detail be raised or inscribed?
Also, thank you so much for the molding advice- that's awesome.

Re: Anyone make bowstrings? FOUND SOME. :)
Thanks for the caution Scarxik! Anyhow, HA is being really good about customer service: the difficulty may have been that we had a misunderstanding: he thought I meant a 73" BOW not a 73" STRING - so there wasn't much twist. Anyhow, he's remaking them gratis, so I'm really happy with him s...

So far not so good I'm afraid. I got them today, and one popped right in half at the middle the second I strung it to my bow.
We'll see where things go from here.

Re: What makes this real?
Hrmm... it's hard to really get total immersion, at least during the day. there's always a contrail overhead, a neighbor's chainsaw or motortoy (I hate those things) going a mile or two off... occasionally the stars line up, but it's harder. Evening though - that's better. Having had the good fortun...

Re: First metal casting steps...
Thanks, Caedmon, it's easy to see the iron under the bronze now. Cool! PS: it looks like at the top of these pictures, there are little loops in iron, that the gadget probably had a lanyard or something attached to it so it didn't go wandering off. Yes that is interesting, good eye. It also solves ...

Oh that is cool!
2002 - what neat age to live in that it's still mostly-current and easily accessible!
I have a vague memory I might have actually read that back in the day. OMG TIME.

Re: An introduction and a question.
First - oh yes. Asthma and terrible hay fever both. These days both under passable control with medication, but I'm still not running any marathons. Secondly - I love Peter's suggestion of a quarterstaff. Or heck, a spear. Also, even for a Ranger persona I think you're still in fine shape. Wounds di...

Re: First metal casting steps...
Yes, that's the idea. I've tracked down the original find my Gotland repro firesteel is based on to here: kulturarvsdata.se/shm/object/html/448586 ... but there's not a lot of info there. I'm trusting the repro company (admittedly a dicey idea) that the original in question was in fact a firesteel m...

The tell - just like in ren faire leatherwork - is I think in the hardware. In this case, the jump ring and bail to fasten it to ...

Derp! It's this guy:

I confess I'm not professional enough an archer I'd notice a performance difference (probably) - but I do notice the plasticy feel of my current string, so... I figured it'd be worth a shot. We'll see.

Ursus cheats. Being built like a Dunedan, he's got more room to put stuff.
