Re: Help with weapon/tools for a dwarf ranger
Have either of you done much cutting with your axes? I'm definitely considering a more basic Norse-style axe for my Woodmen persona. I have a Cold Steel Viking Hand Axe right now, but I would prefer something more authentic, also something way better at splitting wood!

Re: Ranger Shoulder Bag
I love love love this bag! Looks excellent! How is the suede for water resistance? I have never really worked with it but I have some to use in a belt pouch I will be making. Thanks! From my experience, suede keeps out water about as well as untreated canvas, if a little bit better. I'm debating tr...

Re: Lion totem?
I was given brother Raven as my totem by the Haida of British Columbia. It is something deeply personal and spiritual for me and I have had some amazing encounters with these wonderful animals throughout my life. I really enjoy bringing it into my persona where I can. Such as the name of Hrafnakveð...

Great kit write up! You have definitely inspired me to research more and work more efficiently! I'll have to write one of these once a few more pieces of my kit fall into place. Well done Ranger!

Re: Woodland archery - what's the longest shot you get?
On this subject, I have a very nice long bow, but am thinking of getting a small hunting bow. Any suggestions on style and source? I always have had a passion for traditional reflex bows. They pack more punch with less length. I don't own one myself, but a friend has a Turkish Bow from Alibows (htt...

Re: Aras Dagnir - A Long Knife of Mirkwood
That’s a lovely piece. You’re a lucky owner! Have you gotten to do much cutting with it? Thank you Ursus! I have actually. I was able to take off a pine branch (about the size of my wrist) with just two cuts. It almost doubles as a small machete for processing small wood. I was only able to do ...

Re: Aras Dagnir - A Long Knife of Mirkwood
I'd never thought about an eating pricker doubling as an awl. Makes a lot of sense..... hrmm.... :) I've also read where folks have suggested using one as a marlinspike - no bad thing to have in a hobby involving as much cordage as this one does. So far I have used it as all three and it works beau...

Re: Leatherwork: Diapering (pic heavy)
Amazing work caedmon! That stitch is super cool! I do agree that this hobby is fairly weighted towards personal opinion, but I think it's more to do with culture. I think that certain high medieval things could work for elvish artefacts and perhaps Gondorian to a certain extent, but I agree that mos...

Aras Dagnir - A Long Knife of Mirkwood
Please allow me to humbly introduce Aras Dagnir, or Hart's Bane in the common tongue. She is the newest addition to my equipment, and has so far served me faithfully. She was forged by Josh Davis of Davis Reproductions (https://davisreproductions.com/). The long knife was based on a bauernwehr from ...

Re: good flint source?
Hey Rangers, I just bought a steel striker which came with 3 pieces of flint about the size of a quarter each. Tiny. I might make arrow heads with them. Where do you go when you want a beefy piece of flint( Or equivalent stone)? I'm in Los Angeles, if that matters. Web sites are welcome also! Thank...

Hail Elendur!
If you ever think of anything like this you could do for Mirkwood I would love to see it! It seems that material evidence of this kind from Mirkwood or the Woodland Realm falls utterly short

Re: The Name of What We Do
Our group uses the term Experimental Archaeology Role Playing, EARP for short. I think it works as a (few) steps towards historical accuracy from LARP but it still lets us explore the fantasy side of role playing without the restrictions of history

Re: A bit of Shire goodness
I've heard of the "Game of Thrones" cookbook, and mostly heard good things about it. I have to work on my pie dough, though. When I make chicken pot pies, I usually cheat with store-bought dough. I have that cookbook! I'll have to post some recipes and my results. The Honeyed Chicken reci...
