Re: Sleighs and other winter transport? And fur jackets

Hmm, yeah i was hoping there was more. The lack of fur coats and jackets in medieval europe is also interesting. Might seem to have carried over to middle earth... The lack of fur coats and jackets in medieval Europe (especially the High Middle Ages in England and I think France) in in part due to ...

Re: Sleighs and other winter transport? And fur jackets

I’m not sure about fur jackets, but he did mention fur-LINED garments:

From The Lord of the Rings, Book II The Ring Goes South, Chapter 3 The Ring Goes South - “All were well furnished by Elrond with thick warm clothes, and they had jackets and cloaks lined with fur.”

Re: Starting to Assemble a Dwarven Toolkit

I agree that a travelling craftsdwarf would be a very cool "in universe" disguise, and would add some fun kit to show folks for non-trekking outings, like Faires and Cons and the like. Folks do like looking at "stuff", it seems! it's tiny, very simple but useful for fine work lik...

Re: Nemo's Dwarf Kit

I agree with Udwin - your kit has come a long way! Good thinking to pack your gear in; even short little trips like that can provide you with a lot of valuable information. When I go to the southeastern Ranger moots, I always try to limit myself to the gear that I can carry into camp on my back in o...

Re: Barrel-shaped leather costrel build (pic heavy!)

Most of my characters are defined by who I am "In Real Life", hence my earlier statement about using what is on hand. That is 100% my attitude about including those that are struggling to participate at the level they WANT to be at versus where the are at the moment. That's a completely v...

Re: Barrel-shaped leather costrel build (pic heavy!)

For historic accuracy purposes, I should have used thicker leather and welt pieces, but live and learn! I'm all about using what you have on hand. I feel there's a truth to that even when it makes it less than perfectly historically accurate. I guarantee they also did the exact same thing of using ...

Re: Barrel-shaped leather costrel build (pic heavy!)

I've been absent for...a very long time but coming back and catching up is so exciting, especially because of posts like this! I've wanted to do a barrell costrel for ages. Welcome back! It’s an interesting build - definitely some pros and cons compared to a two-piece flacket. For historic accura...

Re: 3rd Age Dunedain Ranger - Complete Functional Kit Breakdown

I'm adopting 'Taurandir' as a given surname. It's a common habit in Midle-earth, it seems...Beleg Strongbow, Turin Turambar, Gandalf Greyhame, etc. I'm having a darned difficult time settling on a first name I can stomach. Tirathon is a good approximation of the meaning of 'Gregory', so that fits w...

Re: 3rd Age Dunedain Ranger - Complete Functional Kit Breakdown

It’s lovely to see everything together (not that the individual pieces aren’t wonderful by themselves)! Amazing gear and attention to detail, as always.

Do you have any plans for a impression/“persona” write-up to go with it?

Re: 3A Dunedain Trekker's Iron Cauldron [V2]

That’s lovely! I really enjoy that the form is very similar to Elleth’s, but that the details are a little different - it suggests access to common materials and construction methods (cultural cohesion, as you said), but that gear would be made one piece at a time. Sometimes kits that are indivi...

I woudl like a better quality over tunic than I have now, but don't even know where to look. I got this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07M9XBG57/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . on amazon, and like the look if not the material. I’d suggest starting up a new “Soft ...

Here’s the issue where Greg talked about the design and the like - http://www.budgetauthenticity.org/mers/ ... nter17.pdf

The Bocksten cloak is an extant garment that we’ve all be referencing - it’s a 14th century half circle cloak with a sewn neck closure.

Re: In Search of Pre-Made Body Linens

Oof, any time you want 100% linen, the price shoots way up. I did a little poking around, and everything I could find was at least $90 or $100. The best ones I was able to find were: Historic Enterprise’s 14th-15th century smock - about $100 and I can’t tell if it’s bleached or unbleached, but...
