Woodcraft a Ranger's Library

Please bear in mind these books and sites are in no particular order and all have some relevent material. The sites are in my favorites and are a culmination of looking into a number of topics. I was thinking of doing a critique on each, however that would delay this info for a least a month so here...

The topic of a library is too extensive for one thread so I've taken the liberty to start several threads with books and online sites. I know I will miss many books and sites and hearty welcome all additional submissions. I'm planning on breaking them up by catagory and would suggest any additions b...

This is a real nice feature.

For the few or us (or maybe just me) who are "electronically impaired", how do you add pics or an album ?

A look into some of the early explorations of North America will reveal a good many "scouting" traits for both land and waterway travel. Robert Jute a mate aboard the Halfmoon (Hendrick Hudson's ship) wrote an extensive journal on his travels including Native American foods, culture (count...

In most of Rogers raids or battles he took in well excess of 200 men judging by his losses and comments on the enemies troops.

In one of Roger's original rules he states when alone or in small numbers walk through the woods as if hunting deer. Not an exact quote but the jist of it.

Good Idea, once the dung is dried it could be used for fuel too.

Ranger Waystations

The topic of Ranger outposts or safe houses came up briefly on Andy's site and I would like to revisit it. My idea of the Ranger outpost would be a typical large log framed cabin in the woods say a maximum of 40 miles away from the nearest village/town and still a goodly distance from the border. Th...

For a VERY similar style check out The Last of the Mohicans with Danial Day Lewis. It was done a good few years earlier. I have both films and have never checked it out but I believe both scenes were probably choreograpghed by the same person. Handaxes or in this particular case tomahawks, are more ...

I don't have the dimensions yet, but the new Atrim/Fletcher/Valiant Arms model The Bristol looks like a good choice. It looks to be a relatively short stout longsword with a decent thrusting point. Anxious to see how it turns out.

I took an canvas painter's dropcloth (9'x12') measured it out 2 1/2' wide and sewed it together down the 9' length. This left me with a open ended two ply "bottom" and a 7' length overlapping piece. You take organic material from the woods or grassey area you're in and stuff the open ended...

Things a ranger or even mercenary would travel with, like blankets and pots would probably be older family items that have been replaced or updated with newer. Once these items become worn or damaged they would receive new life as something different. Old blankets could become groundclothes, or cut ...
