Re: Speed Shooting revisited
PS notes - Kassai is actually a bit of a dickhead. He also shoots 3-finger briton because he got his thumb bit off by a horse while he was trying to hit it in the face. The South Korean Mounted archery team's technique is a tad faster than Kassai's (averaged across everyone that uses it) and has le...

Re: Speed Shooting revisited
There's a gentleman in the SCA group out here in Colorado who actually trained with kassai, and apparently he can shoot like that himself, though I've never seen him do so. He's almost a legend for it out here. Pretty hardcore dude.

Re: Awesome video. It explains a LOT!
HAH! I usually can't stand the Hillywood show, but this is actually pretty hilarious.

Re: Hello from the High Desert!
That's fantastic! Thanks SO much! This shows basically exactly what I was looking for, and will help out a ton with our own project! Incidentally, the fit looks great, and I'm super excited to see the whole finished costume!

Re: Ranger of the Year Award
Very good! Well, as Ringulf has already been nominated, I would like to nominate Caedmon, for his excellent garb contributions.

Re: Hello from the High Desert!
This is coming along really, really well! I can't wait to see the rest! Incidentally, I'm currently working on an Elf costume for my girlfriend, and we're considering doing a tabbard similar to the one you've made here for your wife. We're still trying to get the pattern finalized for it, but it wou...

Re: Speed Shooting revisited
I have issues with some of the more wild theorizing they do about historical archery, and the fact that the whole video is portrayed as a sort of general "show-off" instead of a detailed account of how (and why) it's done. My other gripes are: A) the narrator implies that all the images in...

Re: MRL Deal of the day
Haha, yeah... that's exactly my thoughts on the matter. And why I'm also looking at getting into shoemaking someday, heh. I have had just bizarre experiences with shoe and boot companies - a few good, but most absolutely miserable. Incidentally, never, ever, ever, ever buy from a company called CABo...

Re: Ranger Pants
All very good info, thanks! The archery bracers I would probably just want for, well, archery. I don't think I'd be using them for armoring purposes. But I can see what you're saying. What I really like about them is that they lace on the sides, making the bottom smooth, to protect the bowstring, bu...

Cool! I have to say, I'm totally in love with their work. Some of it is just downright incredible. I REALLY want a pair of their bracers!

Re: MRL Deal of the day
Some of the deals on the MR site are pretty awesome! My girlfriend is thinking of nabbing herself a pair of their Maid Marion boots for various costumes, but we don't know anyone who has ever owned them. Does anyone out there know anything about them? Does anyone know anyone who owns a pair? For onl...

Re: Possible 2013 Colorado Moot?
Thank you, Greg! That's all excellent advice! That's exactly what I was thinking, really. I figure we've got a few people around here who would probably be very interested in doing it, but if we actually do get it together, and there are out-of-towners who want to come out for it, so much the better...

Re: Ranger Pants
Apropos of nothing, I just happened upon these pants over on Etsy, so if anyone wants to buy instead of making their own, these look to be a pretty good specimen of what folks around here seem to prefer:
