Re: Nemo's Ranger Kit

Sorry it took me so long to respond to this. Frothgar did tell me right away, but I apparently forgot my old password and I didn't have access to the email address associated with my account (my old college address) anymore. I was only just now able to have that address forwarded to a different one,...

Re: How do I maintain my longbow?

Thanks guys. I'll check around for linseed oil and Old English Lemon oil, see what the stores around here have. Mineral spirits should be easy enough to find, and I have plenty of beeswax laying around.

How do I maintain my longbow?

When I bought my longbow, I received a business card with it that had a list of ingredients for what the manufacturers wanted me to use to oil the bow once a month or so. Unfortunately, I have no idea where that card is. Apparently I could have found everything at a normal hardware store, but the on...

Re: New bow, and some projects

Wow, I did the brown shoe polish and it looks great! I might do that for all of my projects now.

Re: New bow, and some projects

I'll be dyeing tomorrow. I still haven't come up with what I want to have on the blank portion of the sheath, so I'm going to sleep on it. I'm also pretty sure I'm going to reverse the colors I'd initially planned on and have the sheath be brown and the suspension be green. Maybe. http://i480.photob...

Re: New bow, and some projects

I have the main sheath assembled! It's drying and forming around the knives right now. Currently, they're all very nice and snug. Knowing how sheaths turn out for me, it'll probably get way too loose by the time everything's dry, but let's hope they stay like they are. They won't fall out, but a qui...

Re: New bow, and some projects

I'll see if I can increase the brace height next time I shoot. It isn't much shorter than I'm used to, but it is a little bit. I finished the awl/eating pick! I didn't have to grind down that awl I was working on after all. I ended up finding a broken ice pick that I took the blade out of, which wor...

Re: New bow, and some projects

Alright, the handle on the eating knife is done. Tandy no longer sells the dye I used for the utility knife handle, so this is a different type of black dye. It came out a little lighter, but it's not too noticeable. I re-did the wrapping on the utility knife cause it was getting loose and I decided...

Re: New bow, and some projects

I've either broken in my gloves a bit too much, or I got a size too big. When I first put them on, my fingers reach the end perfectly and snugly, but they quickly slide off. Now that I'm using them as shooting gloves, I can't have that, cause the extra leather gets stuck between the nock and the str...

The knife blade came in! http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr169/Nemo_of_Calh/Mobile%20Uploads/1120142000_zpsk8yrn3yv.jpg~original And here's how all of the pieces will sit when the sheath is assembled: http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr169/Nemo_of_Calh/Mobile%20Uploads/9701be80-1e94-40cf-b7e1-1...

Re: New bow, and some projects

I have to aim down to hit the target, so if I miss the target entirely, the arrow only goes a few feet behind the target. Everything behind the target is so far away that I likely wouldn't even hit it aiming level, and if there's anyone in that general direction, I don't shoot regardless.

New bow, and some projects

I haven't posted for a while, so I figured I'd post some stuff I'd been up to. I finally upgraded my puny target bow last month, going from a 35 pound fiberglass recurve to a 72 pound wood longbow. I've been wanting a real heavy bow for a few years now, but I always wanted to feel the bow before I b...

Re: Barenheim's Patrol Camp

The first order of business for the next outing will be to get some flooring in the shelter. We were looking around for pine trees, but there weren't any nearby, and we wouldn't have wanted to cut living branches if we could help it anyway. We were thinking about pallets, but that'd probably be both...
