Re: Thoughts on Civil War "Dog Tents?"
Good luck! Here's a video on the kohte - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLzEYIVAFJQ .. it always seemed to me that it was begging to be a fantasy-adventurer / fantasy-world-army setup, what with being able to use pikes for poles and a shield for that top air vent cover. That might be too clever by ...

Re: Thoughts on Civil War "Dog Tents?"
May I suggest looking also at WWI German Zeltbahns (the square ones, not necessarily the later triangles), the Russian WWII plasch-palatka, and the postwar(?) German civilian Kohte tents? I think you'll find a lot to like - the shape of the last just seems begging to be made into a somewhat more ref...

Re: Hello! A Writer Joining for Inspiration
Cool and good luck! I think you might want to have a look at the Gwelf Survival Guide - it's got a similar structure to what you're talking about, but of course with a very different setting. https://www.eyeofnewtpress.com/products/gwelf-the-survival-guide And you may already know this, but for thin...

Re: Lanolin question
I've used this, I think on advice of Ursus once upon a time: https://www.etsy.com/listing/90511095/2-oz-mamabear-lanolizing-wool-spray-you?variation0=577848387 ... but I confess, I didn't notice a difference in the wool birrus I tried it on. (I sprayed one half of the thing down, let it sit, and wor...

Our Witcher cousins
Okay, so they're not rangers per-se. But they totally have the "hardcore historical reenactment, but for fantasy" thing down.

Cool!
I totally need to try those someday soon. Thank you for the pointer!
ECHO does such amazing work. The world opening up enough for us to communicate with Eastern Europe has just been a godsend.

Very cool!
... is that an American army tent I see? How did it work for you keeping off the wind?
Looks like lots of cozy wools at least, and good companionship! How fun!

Welcome! You've done some really impressive work!
I seem to recall once upon a time there was a very impressive group doing Elvish impressions in France - any chance they're still going, and if so are you involved with them?

Re: Discovery of Glacier Bay by John Muir
Interesting! I'm gonna bet the cedar matting he describes is woven bark, something like these: Alaska+Native+cedar+bark+hat+ermine+abalone+Wrangell.jpeg https://www.cherylstradingpost.com/native-art/cedar-bark-weaving/ https://www.alaskafloatsmyboat.com/beachcombing/2013/5/11/alaska-ma/ I can't say ...

Yes, it was downstream of turning off the spamhaus plugin. We got hit with a crippling amount of bot traffic and burned through the quota in a couple hours.Thankfully it happened at the end of the year!
I assume since we're back up Jack has reenabled the plugin.

Hunh. That shouldn't affect domestic fowl though. I had a ton of Toulouse feathers from our last geese flock at one point, and they looked lovely for fletching. Made nice quills, too.

That looks like it's going to be exquisite! Are you doing the inlay as well?
(For what it's worth, I don't think the 45 degree offset would be boring at all)
