Picture Storybook Contest 2012 Entry "Bad Dwarves"

One day, there were two Rangers. They were smiling. Their morning coffee had been particularly mellifluous.

“It is a good day to kill some bad Dwarves,” observed one of the Rangers.

“Yes. It is a good day.” The other Ranger agreed.

“I will go and find some bad Dwarves, and then we can kill them.”

“Yes. Bad Dwarves are bad.”

And so the two Rangers departed into the dangerous domain of the Dark Dwarves.
They darted to a distance of seventy meters from one another as the derelict wilderness drew a veil between them.
One sought to discover the Dwarven dwelling, while the other lurked in the darkness, devising the Dwarves’ demise.

At last, after many hours of searching, one of the Rangers saw some Dwarves.

“Why, I do think those Dwarves are doing something bad,” he thought. “Other Ranger! I found some bad Dwarves!”

Image

The other Ranger heard his brother’s call, but he was too far away to kill anything.
So the Ranger who found the Dwarves started following them.

Then the other Ranger caught up, and killed one of the Dwarves with an arrow.

“Oh no! Why did you kill us?” Asked the Dwarf whom he did not kill.

“Because you are bad Dwarves,” said the other Ranger. He paused for emphasis. “You were doing something bad.”

“No, we are nice Dwarves! Here, I will show you.”

The Dwarf who wasn’t dead led the Rangers to a secret place.

“See? Here is my wife. She is a nice Dwarf. See?”

“Oh, I am so sorry,” said the Rangers. “We thought you were bad Dwarves.”

“It’s okay. We forgive you,” said the Dwarf who was not dead and his wife.

Then everyone was happy and they drank more coffee. The end.
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

Excellent. Loved the serious tone.
