I Sit Beside The Fire And Think...

Post by Feredir (hunter) »

Hello everyone! this is a song that the good professor wrote (I believe) in his books, and I think goes well with what we do:

I sit beside the fire and think
of all that I have seen
of meadows-flowers and butterflies
in summers that have been;

of yellow leaves and gossamer
in autumns that there were,
with morning mist and silver sun
and wind upon my hair.

I sit beside the fire and think
of how the world will be
when winter comes without a spring
that I shall ever see.

for still there are many things
that I have never seen:
in every wood in every spring
there is a different green.

I sit beside the fire and think
of people long ago
and people who will see a world
that I shall never know.

but all the while I sit and think
of times there were before,
I listen for returning feet
and voices at the door.
I drink coffee and I pretend to know what I am doing...

There's a band called Broceliande (the name of the magical forest in Brittany, which figures into the latest Tolkien book published, "The Lay of Aotrou and Itroun") that sings a version of this poem.
Vápnum sínum skala maðr velli á
feti ganga framar því at óvist er at vita
nær verðr á vegum úti geirs um þörf guma

I have this song in the Tolkien Song Cycle that I performed for my Junior Recital in New York City. One day I am going to learn how to record and download songs here I now have quite a collection of songs from the books and the movies that I am currently performing. (Croaky Dwarven Baritone that I am hee hee!)
I am Ringulf the Dwarven Woodsman, I craft leather, wood, metal, and clay,
I throw axes, seaxes, and pointy sticks, And I fire my bow through the day.
Come be my ally, lift up your mead! We'll search out our foes and the Eagles we'll feed!

there's a program called audacity that you can use to record, it's pretty feature packed, and it's free. I've used it to do some simple vocal tracks with no background or anything just for fun and for my fiancee so she can hear my voice on a regular basis, being as she's still in ireland and all.

https://www.audacityteam.org/ this is the one I use, and I'm still figuring it out, it's not difficult, I just don't have enough hours in the day to do all the things that I would like and so it's gone on the back burner until I've gotten other projects done.
