Great bunch!

Post by Sindara »

We had our third meeting today… what a bunch! Malcom will get us set up on Facebook tomorrow, and talk to the bowyer that he knows - about discussing stuff with our group. We'll be having our next meet (moot) at Tom's house - next to BLM land that we can 'play' on. With the snow and temps right now (sub-zero stuff), we'll work on knots and lashing for the coming meet (AND, of course, telling tall tales, sharing bits of canning, preserving, herb lore, and…) Also plan, in the next month or so, getting everyone into the orienteering end of things! This Tom and his neighbor, Cameron (also a member of our group) were both in special ops while in the military. Tom said that he couldn't tell us exactly what that entailed, BUT that he was on the tracking/ sneaking/ and ambushing end of the business - SO, he is more than willing to train the rest of us in some of the finer points thereof! He and Cameron are also both big game hunters (to feed their families, not trophies). Next time they get something, they will let the rest of us know, and share the how-to's of skinning, gutting, ad preparing the meat (knowing this prankster, probably means that we'll do the work for him - maybe he'll treat us all to venison stew, or something… hint, hint, hint). Also, how to treat the hides for various uses. There's another neighbor of their's who also wants to join our group - that guy makes knives. Maybe we can talk him into making arrowheads, and other fine metallic objects of great use to the ranger-type rest of us! Whew, I think that we are all going to be learning a LOT of stuff! Turnip and I are both looking forward to working with this great group of rangers!
May your days of peace be long, and your enemies few.
