My mom also loved the Three Musketeers movie! Have you seen the new one? With the dude who played Percy Jackson?

Frank Finly? Oh wow I was remembering Oliver Reed as Porthos! he would have worked there too. A great actor and phenominal character acter to boot.

Incidentally, I just read the first RA book yesterday. I started to read it a few years ago, but didn't make it past the first two chapters. After hearing everyone here talking about it, I decided to give it another chance. I was very impressed. Well written, good read...and a quick read too. I finished it in one sitting (about two hours). I like the detail that is given on the Ranger equipment and training, good stuff. Looking forward to the rest of them.

And now I know what everyone is talking about when you're casting the book!

I haven't seen that one yet, but it's on my Netflix queue. I'm sure I'll love it! (It has Milla Jovovich! 'nuff said!)

Was very good and had some exciting choriography.
Though I had a hard time wrapping my head around the whole steampunk in provincial france thing, but I just realized though it will never be "MY" 3 Musketeers, it is an interesting flavor geared more for todays non reading, action based youths.
I gained a much greater appreciation for the movie when I was able to view the special features and listened to the care that was put into the characters actual fighting styles and fidelity of recreation of the actual Dumas characters as originally written in the book. Things made a bit more sense to me after that.
BTW you can imagine, knowing me, that I am a big Porthos fan!

This could be a longshot but rangers are used to this, I think Michael Ironside would make a good Halt, his voice and attiude would be perfect.

They really start picking up by about Book 4, in my opinion. Some of the later books I do feel could have been combined into single volumes, but overall they're great storytelling. It's fun to watch Flanagan come into his own as a writer along the way.

I agree. I think he became more confident in his writing ability as the series went on. Also has anyone heard anything about this turning into a movie?

I honestly hope that they don't turn it into a full fledged movie. Just look at The Hobbit. I think that a series like Game of thrones or The Walking Dead would be better.

I've started reading this series, on book 2 currently. I quite like them. I also find listening to the skyrim soundtrack at the same time is entertaining. I do rather like the orderly attitude of Halt and how Rangers are taught to keep things organized and prepped. I also see there's a few sellers of silver and bronze oak leaves online too.
