Yeah I had that exact same problem when I first wanted to get a bow!

I've customized my tomahawk so that it's more of an effective weapon while still being just as effective of a tool, so now it's the best of both worlds. I'm probably going to make it my primary weapon instead of the sword. It's 22" long, so it's about the size of the average mass weapon. If I keep it as sharp as I've managed to get it now, the axe end is for unarmored targets (or cutting wood) while the hammer end is for armored targets (or hammering stakes, etc.). The langets give a bit of extra weight to the head while also making it more resistant to cuts. The wrist strap is only for when I'm working since it would prevent a lot of active tomahawk fighting techniques. I'd use it in conjunction with my dagger most of the time.

Very, very nice Nemo!

As you most likely have seen, I have quite a soft spot for a good axe!

That one is a very nicely balanced and versitile weapon/tool!
At 22 inches she is going to fight quite well and defend better than most with the langlets.
She might be a bit of a monster to throw but you look like a hardy fellow so I imagine you will be able to utilize it's mass. (lots of knockdown power!)

You said you modified it, it looks a little like the langlet /hammer on the cold steel hammer, is it made this way to start or was this a modification from the CS?

In any case it is very well done, Bravo!

Looks like it started out as a Cold Steel Rifleman's hawk http://www.coldsteel.com/riflemanshawk.html

Wow man. I'm just getting caught up after a long hiatus and man is there ever sue good kit floating around here lately. Your's is a top standout if I may say so. It all just really "works". I'm interested to know where you LARP as well. Being a HEMA guy I've never really tried to LARP but I've always been interested. I've wondered if the skill set I've acquired over the years would translate to a LARP environment.

I made my tomahawk even better!
Image
I stained it to make it look more worn, added an additional forward grip, and added some accents.

Image
The head doesn't need steadying, but I like to have a square knot motif on all of my stuff, and this also covers the adjustment screw that made it look a little modern.

Image
This is my forward grip. From here, the tomahawk is more balanced and much faster, with the sacrifice of reach and power. This grip really compliments the feel of the tomahawk with this hand position, versus the solid grip lower down.

Image
The wrist strap was too plain, so I added some accents.

I might still add some more small decorations, like a tassel attached either under the head or at the end of the wrist strap. I want to combine a Native American, primal look with a refined European killing machine look. It's also supposed to be utilitarian though, so I'm not sure if the tassel would be in keeping with the whole design.

Alright, so this thread's really not just "soft kit" anymore. I like keeping things in one place, though, so I don't clutter up forums. But I have pictures!
