Fabric

Post by Melthrist »

So, I've been looking around for somewhere in Australia for my fabric needs but the only places I can find don't sell the types of fabric that I'm looking for (most of it's got printing on it or just doesn't seem right.). Does anyone know of any places (preferably in Australia) where I can find good, historical fabrics? Where do you all get your materials from?

Secondhand shops for wool and linen garments (or tablecloths) to cannibalize.
If you want new or larger fabric, I believe we established that http://www.fabrics-store.com (excellent linen with good sales) WILL ship Down Under.

If I recall the last time an Australian person asked for help with local materials sources, the best answer was second hand store.. always something of a hit-or-miss proposition.
(Try searching for Valjuen's threads - you might get some good local advice there)

I can say my favorite fabric online retailers are:
http://www.wmboothdraper.com
and
http://www.burnleyandtrowbridge.com

Both will ship internationally, but I suspect the cost would be prohibitive. :/

You could also try looking for military surplus - wool blankets can make for reasonable cloak material (I don't think I'd try them for a tunic, though) and you can sometimes find surplus wool pants that will serve reasonably well (at least in the US).
