I agree with Greg. Do we ever see the Southern Rangers' feet in the movies? They're generally moving around in tall grass. Maybe at the fort in Ithilen?

If not I think the intent was tall boots of supple leather.

I have a lot to say on this subject, but for now I'm just popping in to say that, yes indeed, we do see the feet of the Ithilien Rangers in the movies quite a lot (I've been hoarding screencaps for a while now). But yes, they are mostly in motion, and I don't know if we ever get a REALLY GOOD still shot of them. Still, their gaiter-dealies were on screen a fair amount.
