There's a separate link there where someone used a fully threaded rod and an eyebolt. That seems a lot easier, if angled a bit weird.

This seems like a clever way to make it without welding, it looks like it would work and wouldn't be to difficult

... I have a vague memory of seeing these done simply tied with rope once upon a time.
Possibly in Whelen? Probably in in some 1970's back-to-the-land book?

Anyhow, I don't remember details, but suspect it was something like this:

I believe I AM close to you and reckon I could weld up a fair few of these in short order, if you're still on the lookout.
