Woodsmen of Mirkwood seax

Post by Cinead »

Made this seax blade a few weeks ago.

8'blade, right at 1 1/2" wide
1/4" thick 5160 spring steel
deep etched patina

As I am intrigued by the Woodmen of Mirkwood, I see a blade like this well suited to their needs. From shelter making to butchering to self defense, it's perfect for me! Nothing fancy, just a well made seax for the woods.

Add a light weight belt axe and I'm ready to go!

When I get it handled, I'll post another pic.

Nice! Reminds me a bit of a French colonial trade knife. That's a hefty blade, should hold up for anything you ask of it. What kind of handle material/style are you thinking of using?

It's based upon, but not a direct copy of, the blades found in Wheeler's Typology IV: "clipped point".
