The tang is too long for a Norman, I think. Owned one of those, too (my second favorite of the H/T line).

Re: Custom Re-Worked Blade/Sword Build Progress
Didn't he say he shortened the blade at the shoulders? I could be reading it wrong. It wouldn't be the first time. I was thinking it could also be the medieval single hand but the fuller too narrow on that blade. Maybe it's a bare modified norman blade? I've never seen a blank norman sharp blade from Tinker and as far as I know they don't even del a sharp norman blade blank.Aaron wrote:The tang is too long for a Norman, I think. Nah.
The blade has had approximately 6 inches removed from the end
In the following images, the stock Tinker threaded tang is still intact at its full length

Could be something Tinker himself made and not based on one of the Hanwei models.

I WILL say that the strong 1/3 was respectably blunted, not to training standards, but simply tapered from center to edge without a real edge put on it. From there out, it had an edge on, which was clean enough to look factory, but hey...it could've been put there and simply not finished by someone with some real patience.

Just wondering how this was moving along Greg? Would love to see finished pictures. Plus that means that my JS dagger is getting closer to being completed.

We are eagerly awaiting news on this front, indeed! But less eagerly, I'm sure, than you!

I agree. However, seeing as how that's almost all of the tease I got from Ernie in my email last night, I'll call this "fair enough"...

Re: Custom Re-Worked Blade/Sword Build Progress
What a horrible thing to do to us! Now let the wheedling begin... I'm a sucker for wheel pommels, is it just me or is that made of some kind of wrought iron? The pommels center seems to have a texture to it is why I ask, could be the stage of polish I suppose. Due to the pencil marking on the handle I assume it's being prepped for cord and leather or perhaps for being carved? If carved is it your intent that it match the wenge on your seax? Sorry for the confrence like question barrage lol.

I like where that is going. I would have to go Ursus' first guess and say prepped for a cord under wrap? Looking forward to see what Ernie comes up with for this. The recent pieces that he has been putting out are really awesome looking. Plus it means he is that much closer to starting on my Jody Samson dagger blade.

Re: Custom Re-Worked Blade/Sword Build Progress
I will answer some...but not all.
No, it isn't wrought iron. Ernie mills all his pieces...those are machining marks. Correct: early stage, rough before polish.
Yes, the intent is to complement my seax. That handle material is from the same piece of wenge. No, I won't tell you what the pencil marks mean, though.
