Whenever we build that Inn...

Post by Mirimaran »

Hi all,

Just a world away from Middle-earth, the recipes look very similar!

I have the book written by the folks who run Inn at the Crossroads. It's very well researched, with versions of recipes based on medieval texts, as well as updated versions that might be more pleasing to the modern palette. It's a little expensive, but well done and a lot of fun.

I have the book...and in fact just made onions and gravy the other evening!

The bread recipes are the BEST!

The closest possible thing would probably be some form of lamb and salt pork sandwich...probably open-faced with onions and gravy. Sign me up.

...and a hole-in-the-wall just down the road from me carries something pretty close to that, and it's amazing.

Coincidentally, I'm pretty sure the ludicrous-yet-brilliant Hobbit menu at Denny's includes a salted pork sandwich, but I can't seem to find mention of it online.

Hey, you gotta love the Hobbit breakfast at Denny's....it's original if not a bit odd.
In the darkest part of Sherwoods glade, in the thickest part of the wood, there are those who say, can still be seen, the ghost of Robin Hood.

Haha, right?

And actually, I just realized that the Hobbit pork sandwich I was thinking of ISN'T on the Denny's menu at all - it's on the Alamo Drafthouse December special menu. I work at the Alamo Drafthouse location in here in Littleton, and they're always doing wacky movie-themed foods on their specials menu. Those here from Texas will surely know the Drafthouse by reputation, but basically it's a movie theater that also serves restaurant-quality food and drink.

they totally had bacon:
“Now I know what a piece of bacon feels like when it is suddenly picked out of the pan on a fork and put back on the shelf!"

"No you don't!" he heard Dori answering, "because the bacon knows that it will get back in the pan sooner or later; and it is to be hoped we shan't. Also eagles aren't forks!”

Bacon is a Dwarven staple...of course we use wild boar but...some of our dishes need a flavorful garnish to protect the human pallet!

The Muddy Boots, in Nashville, actually. It's called "Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Sandwich".
