Into the Wild Newsletter

Post by jbook »

Hello all!

It has been a while since my last post. Life tends to get busy and my other reenacting projects have been taking up my time. I've been farming over this past year and have hopes of starting my own farming adventures sometime soon.

The reason for my post is to highlight the Middle Earth Reenactment Society's new newsletter. This has been contributed to by Greg and Udwin with articles/essays they have written here on the forum. You can download a PDF of it from the following webpage, or send me a private message if you are interested in a physical copy mailed to your door.

Thanks and enjoy!

Post Script : Please give me feedback on this. It'll help in the future.

Looking very good. I might suggest you tie the Wiki into the banner across the top.

Hey, it's about time!... ;-) I was starting to wonder if we'd ever see this in print! (kidding, we know how hectic life gets.)

Very shiny. Aside from a few minor typos here and there (and the 4th paragraph of Greg's article appearing on page 5 and page 6), it's a great first issue. I have several articles available for the next edition...Keep us in the loop when you start compiling, and we can run copy-edit duty for you...2 or more pairs of eyes are better than one!

I like Pete's suggestion ^!

Yes time does seem to get away from me. I should have asked for some proof reading. I knew there were probably some mistakes. Number 2 will be better!

Glad everyone likes it!

I absolutely love it, and I'd also be happy to help copy-edit the next one, etc. if you would like. But honestly, it's very nice looking and polished for a first-edition. I'm excited to see where you go with it.

Very nice!

Would you like a header banner or PDF template to dress it up a bit?

Excellent idea.

This is an approach that other groups have followed successfully.
Just a few stray thoughts:
- An umbrella group that can set standards and provide some degree of legitimacy.
- In this age of teh Interwebs, this would be send worldwide, and an individual's first instinct is to ask: "who is doing this near me?"
- It's fun to name your local group with something cryptic, but people need to be able to find you.

Jake, do you take the phrase "Into the Wild" from Tolkien's writings somewhere?
It's got an unfortunate association with a book and a movie about an unfortunate outdoor adventure.

"Where are you taking us?"

"... into the Wild."
I like it. :)

(re the McCandless story ... I hate to say it, but it's not a romantic tale amongst Alaskans so much as "what an naive idiot." Not quite to the level of the "bear people" Californian that got himself and his girlfriend eaten down in Kodiak.. but in the same family. Alaska might not be Africa, but she'll still win if you give her half a chance. )

Fair enough; so it is.

Building on this...
...through a website called Community Walk, someone has created a map of WMA/HEMA schools:
http://www.communitywalk.com/Historical ... thAmerica)

The same thing could be done for MERanger enthusiasts. It's free.
