Andy

Post by Melthrist »

So, browsing some of the older topics on this forum and the wiki I've seen Andy mentioned alot. So, would someone be able to give me a quick rundown of who he was because at the moment I'm kind of confused.

Andy was the guy who really got the whole "Middle Earth Ranger reenacting" thing going some years back - I believe while he was on deployment in Germany in the early-mid 00's.

He had a little site back in the day that's (I believe) long gone, but the content is archived on the wiki
http://www.middleearthrangers.org/wiki/ ... =Main_Page

look for the "Andy's Archive" tab for more info.

edit - ah, I see you found him in the wiki already. :)

Not so far as I know. We have not heard from him for a long time.

I keep in touch with him a little bit...he seems content to not be bothered. Still loves Middle Earth, but I personally believe that much of the magic and fun of doing what we do was lost for him when his trekking partner, Paul Champagne, passed away.

The wiki, which Elleth linked you to, holds every photo I've been able to dig up from his old site and various forum postings, so digging through that Andy archive is about the best you'll do for looking into his activities.

I'm sorry to hear that. They must have been quite close.

Paul was well known to many of us for a different reason. Paul was a swordsmith who smelted his own ore into ingots and then forged them into some very beautiful swords. Everything was done traditionally and he was actually on a History Channel special about 10 years ago. This was when the History Channel actually was devoted to history.

Andy never boasted about him and Paul being friends. It was only when several of us recognized him from Andy's site pictures that Andy said yes it was Paul. Some of the old Andy pics show a sword made for Andy by Paul.

Wow, he must have been a pretty skilled guy.

He went off to college and gave us all to a neighbor kid with a great imagination.
