For those who may not be aware of it, the CW has a TV show called "Legends of Tomorrow." Basically, a bunch of DC ("Superman") universe second string heroes who end up travelling through time trying to correct intrusions in the time line, etc.
Earlier this season, they did a very clever episode in which the heroes travel to the late 1960s/early 1970s and end up crossing paths with George Lucas, inspiring all sorts of "Star Wars" stuff.
In this week's episode, it's off to WWI and the Battle of the Somme. They pick up J. R. R. Tolkien because they need his help finding the tomb of Sir Gawain. Not quite as clever as the George Lucas episode, but interesting to see Tolkien's status in pop culture has reached the point where he is now represented in fiction.

Hunh - neat! We don't get TV, but I'm curious to hear how it goes!
Speaking of pop culture references to the good professor, this has been a fun earworm lately:
(warning - rather crude in a couple places. :/ )
