How curious, my radio just came on with some harp music (Marcel Grandjany) as I pulled up this thread!

Which standing stones are hosting your recital? I love me some harping!

Those stones are part of the Sunwheel at UMASS in Amherst, MA. My former astronomy professor visited a Medicine Wheel in Montana. When she came back she got the site and funds, much of which came from Pagans, and built this Sunwheel. She passed away a few years ago, leaving it unfinished....she intended to add a henge and a few more star stones. It is, even so, a very powerful place. I visit it often. The stones like the music. :)

Such places aren't usually a dwarfs cup of tea  but it looks beautifully peaceful
Gimli: It's true you don't see many Dwarf-women. And in fact, they are so alike in voice and appearance, that they are often mistaken for Dwarf-men.
Aragorn: It's the beards.

I notice that you chose the word "Harper" as opposed to "Bard."

Was that a personal preferance or is "Bard" a specific title/path in your order?

The two are not necessarily the same, although most folk think so.

I have completed the Bard Grade of the OBOD, the Ovate Grade, an Archdruid of the AODA, a Sister of Avalon.

I am a Druid, a Bard, an Ovate, and a Priestess.

I chose 'Harper' as I am not a 'Harpist', and I don't like the way people conflate 'Bard' with 'Minstrel'. The two are not the same thing.

A Bard in the ancient sense; keeper of Lore and Law, teacher of the Folk.

So, yes...Bard is a specific grade within one of my Orders. I use 'Harper' here as I dislike 'Minstrel', and because I am myself a common person, a Hedge Druid, if you like. So not a professional as a Harpist can be.

Hope that makes sense to you. It does to me...then again, I am me and we all know how odd I am. ;)

Harpist is a term for classically trained pedal harp-players, whereas Harper tends to be geared towards smaller, levered or non-levered harps playing traditional/cultural musics. Fitting.

Townsend's knit fingerless gloves are the bomb, by the way.

These days Harpists are pretty much professional players. Used to be specific to classic pedal harp players. Hasn't' been for a lot of years.

I don't use Bard here as that is part of my Druid training and for me it doesn't really fit. Harper fits much better and the Elvish word for one is 'Nandaro'. Seems more fitting to me. I should have explained it that way above. Oh well.

Yes, the knit fingerless gloves are simply awesome, which is why I use them. This morning it was cold enough for my fingers to feel stiff, which is why I wore them at first. :)

Oh well that looks like a grand time! I'm jealous. :)

That's a lovely little harp - who was the maker?

The maker was Hummingbird. Long since out of business. This was the first harp I ever owned, bought back in...mmmm, '89 if memory serves. :) I purchased her at Folk Mote Music in Santa Barbara. Long time ago.

Oh that looks like a fantastic day!

Is that picture from last year, or shall I envy your green weather in addition to your fine harp?

They are from last year, same as the two at the top. At the moment, we have a white world out there. It won't last long, although still rather annoying.
