BRILLIANT. You, sir, are an adventurer's best friend!
So... just wondering if anybody has gone up there to look for this? There is another one in the Ruby Range in NE Nevada. I plan to go out that way again this summer, and if they are not found by then, I plan to retrieve them myself and re-cache in even more difficult locations.
Just so you know... I went back out a couple weeks ago... almost a year after placing the cache... and it was still there. So I went ahead and recovered it. Apparently $400 worth of coins was not enough for anybody to bother going to look for it, even with explicitly precise directions. So... I'll add more stuff to it and place it in a much more difficult location. A quest is not supposed to be easy!
Going to cache anything east of the Mississippi? As to a more difficult location, are you thinking maybe Afghanistan? The Moon?

How cool would that be. For Afghanistan, we'd use the Army Rangers and for the moon, it would have to be the Minbari Rangers from Babylon 5.

East of the Mississippi... possibly Michigan. As to a more difficult location... that last one was only a half hour walk from the trailhead. Gotta get further away from the parked car. Maybe a two-day backpack into a wilderness area?

If Michigan, I'd definitely try with my boys. But not a two day pack out- they're only six and eight.

By the way, have you seen the horrific flooding in Houghton and the rest of the Keweenaw?

I suppose it's both a joy to find a treasure again, and a disappointment that someone else hadn't had the delight of discovery!
Thank you for going to the trouble!

Regarding placement in points east, if you need anything placed in the White Mountains, I'm happy to do it, though it may be some time before I can get away for a weekend.
Alternately, I think we've a couple new members already smack dab in the region.

Thank you again for going to all the effort bringing magic into the world! :)

Frustrated that I'm so late to find this thread. Also a bit miffed at Manveruon for not mentioning it but it's not like we haven't lives outside of ranging in Colorado. That said, I found this thread because I was thinking back on a past time I shared with my kiddoes back in the day. Letterboxing. Similar to geocaching but, I feel, more suited to rangers as it's done with directions and compass rather than GPS coordinates. Usually there is book and stamp set. You stamp the book with your stamp and use the cached stamp to mark your own log. If space allows, a short message can be left. Something along those lines would be fun to just communicate with fellow rangers. Maybe a note about dangers in the area, useful plants to be on the lookout for, even local inns that would be friendly to Dunedain and other travelers. Definitely think our local group should start something like this to get people out in the field more often. Hmmm...

So I must have missed this the first time around, but hells yes! So cool. I have to say that I have often created Quests for my Rangers, and now I’ve started my own business creating custom Quests for people: Adventure Quest. Easy to remember, right? I’ve long been thinking about placing some up-for-grabs items for those brave souls who might get after them, but so far life has not allowed me to plant them. I shall need to refocus and make it happen. I’ll post the first clue here on the site.

Augh! I was bound and determined to recover that cache once I had suitable gear in which to do it. It didn't seem right to seek it out in modern kit. Now that I'm ready, I find I'm too late! Well, if there's ever one on this half of the continent again...or if my travels take me near enough...I'll not let it escape again!

I've been swearing up and down for YEARS now that I would go hunting for it, but even though it's technically in my state, the location is sufficiently remote as to make the trek extremely difficult for me to actually commit to.
