While some of it might be interesting ie: Architecture- dwarves, hobbits, rohan etc. Food, costuming and a few other things.

Do we really need another dwarf mine cart ride (Dwarf Mine Coaster- Disney), ride a giant Eagle (Flight of the Avatar- Disney), Escape the Dwarf King Barrel Ride (Log Flume ride- Anywhere and Every where)

I think this type of commercialization would destroy the books reputation.

Universal is known for over the top rides so they wouldn't treat the books with the respect they deserve .

Hrm...

I think I have to agree largely agree with Peter - any park that could operate profitably would likely do enough of a disservice to the source material I wouldn't enjoy it. But then, theme parks are for igniting the spark of fantasy in the next generation. If it means new Tolkien fans discovering the wellspring in another couple decades, I suppose I'll make peace with it.

For myself, I think I'll content myself with a flower garden this summer. :)

To me, the kind of pre-packaged experience, with long lines of people hustled through a Potemkin village of Middle-earth facades is the antithesis of everything Tolkien held dear. Further, it would do what Christopher Tolkien feared with the success of the films- cement a visual image of Middle-earth, stripping each reader's imagination.

if it was done as a kind of living alternate history type thing I think it could be good, but otherwise it might ruin the narrative of the tales

And we all know it wouldn't be done as a living history type place, but a Disneyland style cash grab designed to stuff as many paying customers into as small a place as possible to maximize revenue.

sadly, that is the case. unfortunately, I don't think anyone can prevent it from happening as long as saul zaentz and co. think they can make money off of it.

It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I would love to take my grandson to someplace like that...so yeah, take my money.
