The Fall of Gondolin

Have you guys seen it? The Fall of Gondolin is to be published on August 30 this year! Edited by Christopher Tolkien and featuring illustrations by Alan Lee. Apparently it will contain at least some previously unpublished material, and a structure similar to Beren and Lúthien, with various versions of the same story.
What do you think? I personally can not wait to get my hands on a copy!

I seem to remember some chatter here a while ago, when it looked like "Luthien and Beren" was going to be Christopher Tolkien's final foray into editing his father's works. I wasn't alone in wishing that "The Fall of Gondolin" had made it, too. And now here we are! I can't wait to get a copy.

So it's going to be a 'Lost Tales' form of multiple versions, rather than a Single Narrative? But I already have the Lost Tales. I'm not sure what this contributes.

Thanks for the heads up.

I hope that it will also deal further with the "resurrection/re-embodiment" of one of my favorite characters, Glorfindel.

!!! I had not heard of this.

Worth it just for the Alan Lee illustrations is my thought.
How very cool!

I expect that the various versions of my favorite tale, Of Tuor and His Coming to Gondolin, would find their way in as well. I know I’ll buy a copy, even if there’s no new actual material.

...Because I’m a sucker.

Alan Lee is a fantastic artist, loved what he did recently in LUTIEN AND BEREN....so I am sure it will find it's way on to my bookshelf.

You can pre-order on Amazon already...I did. The cover is a Tuor clad in Bearskins approaching Gondolin. It’s gorgeous.

Got mine yesterday. I’m on vacation for a week staring yesterday, needless to say I already finished it. I’ll wait a bit before posting my thoughts and give others time to read it.

Mine's in hand at present. It's lovely.

I was somewhat surprised that the full narrative from the Unfinished Tales "Of Tuor and His Coming to Gondolin" was actually left out. Would have seemed appropriate to include the longest, most detailed account of Tuor and Voronwe's travels, but the focus was instead solely on the literary growth of the Fall of Gondolin itself. Still a great volume.

Oh shoot! My preorder failed.

.... Guess I'll look at the bookstore tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder!

I stand corrected (and relieved!):
The full, heavily detailed narrative of "Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondlin" IS included, and titled "The Last Version", and then described as being titled "Of Tuor and the Fall of Gondolin", beginning on page 145. This includes the reference to Voronwe's need-wallet and Tuor's cloak concealing his sword referenced in my forum signature, ending at Tuor's entrance to the city, and does not cover any of his time spent living there or the attack of Morgoth...by-and-large my favorite passage of Tolkien's works.
