A query about hawks.

Hey Greg, so I was out on the trails today, and I could swear this hawk was using the sun to blind me. Is this a common tactic they use, or was my imagination running?

Sounds like imagination to me. Have to think past what you perceive is happening to this step: To what purpose would a hawk attempt to blind me?

The answer is a fairly simple "Nothing, because I'm way bigger than he/she is, and they wouldn't dare come at me."

They are pretty fascinating creatures, though, who have some very interesting habits. Sounds like you had a grand day out!

Nice thank you :) just thought maybe they were guarding a nest. There was a larger one and a smaller. The large one had a deeper screech. I've been seeing them each time I've been that way.

Bit late in the year to have nestlings. Pretty much all hawks should have fledged by now and be on their way to being self-sustaining passagers. The screeching you're hearing may very likely be an angsty teenager yelling "Feed me" to mom, who is kicking them out of her territory.
