I think I saw this posted to the MERangers fb page a while back.
Meh. The author is clearly a big Rome buff, but it's written too informally and without any real references to be taken very seriously. The only concrete detail he supplies for Mordor's army (that the force at the Pelennor was 250k) appears nowhere in Tolkien and is completely fabricated.
Unless someone's going to back up their hypothetical 'what ifs' with researched details, it just amounts to armchair historian hot air, and unfortunately, Tolkien doesn't provide enough details of Sauron's forces to allow this matchup to be feasibly explored.
