That's an excellent article.

Thank you.

A dying man can still kill you--no doubt about it. That's why many fighting forms/sets seem to "over do it" towards the end. They most likely put those moves in there for exactly this reason.

Thank you! Interesting topic.

We went over this in the Viking reenactment groups.

He's right, if you have folk in a shield-wall, your shields are side-by-side and you can only hold the spear high, above your line of shields. Otherwise you may create a gap in the wall, the enemy rushes in and you all die.

Also, the openings in your opponents' line of shields appears (overlapping) in such a manner that you can best exploit by moving your hand to the left and angle your spear point to the right, into the gap in the enemies' shields, especially if your buddy on the right nudged the enemy's shield to create an opening.

If you haven't seen the informational videos from Gary Chynne, they are worth checking out, on a rainy afternoon. He has some of the most common sense archery tips, that I have seen. He has a ton of videos on you tube, here is a link to one...that will lead you to many more.

Good morning, I thought you might be interested to see this training device we started using a few years ago at the fencing guild. It's a Pendleziel and helps develop your distance and general weapon control for all weapon types.

Have a look, see what you think:
