Field Archery

Post by Kortoso »

Recently I made a short and simple video about Field Archery:

Many official archery ranges have Field Ranges in addition to their standard Practice Range.

Here's a list of archery ranges in the USA, and most have field ranges:

Nice work
Gimli: It's true you don't see many Dwarf-women. And in fact, they are so alike in voice and appearance, that they are often mistaken for Dwarf-men.
Aragorn: It's the beards.

Cool!

I can't tell from the video - mostly 3D game targets on the field course? About what range do people usually shoot at?
Persona: Aerlinneth, Dúnedain of Amon Lendel c. TA 3010.

I was afraid to show the course in detail, because they only trot out the 3D targets for contests ("club shoots") since the 3D targets are not free and fall apart after they've been killed too many times. Different clubs set their courses up differently, but generally if there is no shoot going on, there are at least hay bales at each location, and usually with some sort of paper target.

(It's usually free to shoot on the Field Range during operating hours unless there's a club shoot going on.)

Ranges depend on the target and your class of bow. Juniors (kids) can shoot closer, wheelbows (compounds) shoot further off. But for longbows and recurves, the most common range is around 30 yards. Don't be surprised if they throw in a couple of challenging targets at about 50 yards, and often downhill or uphill, which really screws up most people's aim.
