A good set up. You could leave the front open in wet or cold weather & use a reflector fire using rocks.

This video I made is called "Making Camp". It shows how easy it is to set up an oilcloth shelter.

I do most of my trekking in winter using this shelter. I only carry one blanket. Firewood is stacked close so I can stoke the fire in the night without leaving my bed. My bed is just a pile of sticks to keep me off the ground. I will cover this with bracken if there is enough around.
I always keep a pile of dry kindling in the back of the shelter in case the fire should go out in the night. I use my trade kettle to catch rainwater run off from the oilcloth and pour it into my costrel.

What I've found out I can do is tie the hood of my cloak on to a spear and peg out the other two corners. It's not terribly warm or anything, but gives me a bit of shade in the day. My cloak isn't waterproof, but I guess it would keep off the rain too.

My tarp is 8' wide and 8' long...this set up makes a tent 8' long 5' wide and 4' tall....and no wasted floor space.....
