Any and All Fantasy Fiction Book Discussion

Post by Greg »

I've recently started (and finished) Markus Heitz's "The Dwarves", which is absolutely awesome. Not set in Middle Earth, but it's based around Tolkien and modern fantasy's standard of the Dwarf. He decided that it was their turn for the limelight. I'd be among the first to point out that The Hobbit is very much a dwarf-based adventure, but the fact of the matter is, this one is still absolutely awesome.

The sequel, The War of the Dwarves, is bloody brilliant as well, though I'm not very far into it yet. Quite entertaining. The first one actually takes a short while to explain some kit possibilities as well...go pick up at least the first if you haven't had a chance to already!

Even the COVER just reeks of awesome. The cover for the second is, for lack of a better term, dwarf-tastic.

So you're saying it's on your short-list of reading material?
Many evil things there are that your strong walls and bright swords do not stay.
You know little of the lands beyond your bounds.
Peace and freedom, do you say?
The North would have known them little but for us.

I fought tooth and nail to get a copy...you might say that copies are in "short" supply.

So your saying that all other books on the subject will be "dwarfed" by comparison?

At ~750 pages, one could hardly find the means to cut short the reading...

You wouldn't want to keep a book this great on the underground
