Flint for striker

Post by Cinead »

I need 4-5 pieces of good sharp flint for my fire kit.

I find it online yes, but a $3 batch of flint comes with an $8 shipping tag....

Anyone?

Hmm. You're in...northern Kentucky, right? If you feel like venturing down towards Louisville next weekend, I'm going to be in Charlestown, IN demo'ing braintanning at a history event. I could pretty easily bring some sharp pieces of local flint with me.

I'm actually in Oldham County just north of Louisville, but my wife is having spine surgery Friday....so no way I can get away.

I'm also interested in finding a source. My 12 year old and I finally have the smithy running, and want to make some strikers.

caedmon - any chance you'ld be willing to do a custom one someday?

I *love* this historical design from a Gotland find, and I think the same idea but with a Dunedain design in the bronze portion would be gorgeous. Exactly what I'm not certain.. a Tolkien flower pattern? Laurelin the tree of sunlight? Stars?

^^^Seconded.

Jack, PM me your address and I'll shoot a few pieces up your way. I have a few spares, but I think Udwin most likely has Cinead covered due to their proximity, now or soon after.

When I was stationed at RAF Lakenheath, I found that flint was the rubble of choice along all of the English roads. I came home with a dufflebag filled with 'rocks'.
The solution is to find a friend in England who can pick you up a few and mail them to you really cheap.
Does it matter if you get them next day or next week?
