Anyone make bowstrings? FOUND SOME. :)

I'm looking for a couple longbow strings, 73" nock-to-nock and... here's the kicker - all natural fibers. I can find modern stuff all over the web, but I'm looking to go totally old school.

Anyone out there do such things?

edit - found a maker. :)

Neat! Having a natural bowstring seems pretty cool, but I'm curious about the performance. For now I'm happy with my modern, synthetic strings - they don't "take me out of it" too much - but still... little details like this can have a big impact.

Alas! The link you provided is only to a specific transaction, not to a shop or a listing, so it won't let anyone else see it.

Derp! It's this guy:

I confess I'm not professional enough an archer I'd notice a performance difference (probably) - but I do notice the plasticy feel of my current string, so... I figured it'd be worth a shot. We'll see.

Thanks!

Yeah, I'm curious to know that you think. I may be interested in giving one a try.

So far not so good I'm afraid. I got them today, and one popped right in half at the middle the second I strung it to my bow.

We'll see where things go from here. :(

Be carefull about this... bad bowstring may cause far more then broken bow especial with higher powndage..

Thanks for the caution Scarxik!

Anyhow, HA is being really good about customer service: the difficulty may have been that we had a misunderstanding: he thought I meant a 73" BOW not a 73" STRING - so there wasn't much twist. Anyhow, he's remaking them gratis, so I'm really happy with him so far. We'll see how the new ones do.

Ah, well that's a shame. I'm eager to hear further results with these. Hopefully this will fix the issue.

I know a friend here in Great Falls. Craig Compher makes and sells bows, arrows, strings...pretty much everything. And he's really good at it.
Look up C & N Archery. Not sure if he ships but give him a call. Tell him Taylor sent ya.

Does anyone know of a good instructional video on how to take string and tie it off properly for use as bow string? I bought a roll of nylon string for bows, but have no idea what length to cut it at, nor how to tie it off properly.

Here is the one I use, teaches you to make a flemish twist bowstring. It has good written instructions as well as video.

While I've not made any strings myself, this is how I plan to make them when I do. The example in the video uses Dacron 50, but I see no reason why the technique shouldn't work with Linen.

Hey Elleth, it's been months, how are those strings holding up?
