Going beyond the scope of this topic, the DVD on the Armourer's Workshop is very good, and the selected projects (a great helm and gauntlets) provide an excellent grounding in many armouring techniques. Along those lines "Techniques of Medieval Armour Reproduction," which was also available at least in the past on Paladin is a very good work, too. Joe Piela also has an eBook out on making Spangenhelms available on Amazon. Very good beginner text on the subject, though if you want a more historically accurate product you'll need to make some changes to his instructions.
