That is a really cool looking compass! Simple, but of course I love the outer design.

at first glance I thought it was a cheap button-compass set into the end of a shotgun shell.

Cute for a pocket but not very useful

I wouldn't say that it's totally useless. With practice and a map it could be very useful, it is similar to the escape compasses of WW2.

Agreed. While not as accurate as an Alpine, it will give you a knowledge of North and South. Enough to get any woodsman worth following out of the woods.
