Hiker Found Tied to a Tree in NC

Post by Harper »

Yet another reason why Rangers should be armed and know how to use what they carry:

I'd love to see somebody try and pull that crap on one of the women of this forum! Hee...hee...hee (malicious laugh). I know that it would turn out very, very differently...
"Well, no one troubled us," said Pippin, "and we came along slowly and kept no watch. We thought we'd left all trouble behind us."

"Ah, that you haven't, Master, more's the pity." said Butterbur. "But it's no wonder they left you alone. They wouldn't go for armed folk, with swords and helmets and shields and all. Make them think twice, that would."--RotK

Yeah, I read that story. I hike sections of the AT. The idiot who tried that on me would find him/herself unpleasantly surprised.

Whoa! It's also an excellent example of why it's generally a good idea to go with at least one companion. But if not, there's always the sword...

64... Poor lady. :(

... I can't say for certain I'd fare any better, but it's been my resolution any orc is going to have to work for it. So far, so good. :/

Really sad. I hope they catch the guy. And I hope she is all right.

Also a good example of why it is so important to let someone know where you plan to go and when to expect you back. Without the friend it might have been too late before someone found her.

Personally, I keep a good sturdy hiking stick and a good blade or two, but unless you are trained for it and very alert, you really don't know what you would do in her place. I would hope I would fare better.
Still round the corner there may wait a new road or a secret gate and though I oft have passed them by a day will come at last when I shall take the hidden paths that run west of the moon, east of the sun.

It's those types of characters who need a re-awakening of what the fear of rangers in the wilds can do....bloody coward
