Got lucky today, very rare find!

Post by R.D.Metcalf »

I was cruisin' my stompin grounds betwixt the French Broad river and the baldies when I came across a special birch tree blowed up by the roots, on closer inspection I found the mother load of curly and burled birch. Birch and sugar maple are two of my favorites. I had my pack and my bow saw so I brought a bit of the root home, it will be awhile before I can use it but I was over joyed to actually find some native figured birch 8) Next time I'm going to take my horse and my chainsaw, and pack out the rest. This tree was one of three birches that have been a landmark for me since I was very small, I called them the "three sisters", I hated to see her down but at least she wont go to waste.
