That's splendid :
Gimli: It's true you don't see many Dwarf-women. And in fact, they are so alike in voice and appearance, that they are often mistaken for Dwarf-men.
Aragorn: It's the beards.

So now that it's dried, it has a distinctively greenish cast. None of my test pieces have had that. Any of you vinegar black users know what's going on?

Different leather reacts slightly differently: was your test piece cut from the same hide?
I'd be tempted to give it a second treatment if it's not light enough - I normally end up doing a couple passes before sealing. The exception being as I recall that Hermann Oak stuff which I don't think needed it.

Re: Dunedain Girdle-Purse
Some more work done.
I soaked it in a baking soda bath, and let it dry. A couple days later I added some olive oil. Man, it was thirsty! I used a half cup of olive oil and I'd bet it would have taken more.
Since then I've let it sit on paper towels and equalize.
Yesterday I cemented down the coin pockets and reenforecment strip, and today I punched stitching holes.
Next step, It's finally time to start stitching.

That project gets better every time I see it
Are the coin pockets going to be drawstring?

This is just getting jaw droppingly good.

Re: Dunedain Girdle-Purse
So, it's been a long time since I updated...
I mentioned how much olive oil it soaked up? About a half cup. Didn't think anything of it, until I came back to it the next day, and found oil had come back out and soaked through 3 layers of paper towels. So I have been wiping it down, and letting it dry for a few weeks, it now seems to have evened out.
So, let that be a lesson to you. Less is more. Back to sewing soon.
