Re: What makes this real?
For me middle earth was where I wanted to be. Tolkien was an instant old friend that knew what it was like to feel alone. The books where like a treasure that only I knew about. When I dream, it's middle earth.

Re: What makes this real?
I read Tolkien for the fist time in junior high school, checked it out from the school library. This was the 70's before the internet or streaming service or even cable television. Being raised on the farm out in the middle of Kentucky at that time, left you few options for different forms of entertainment. What TLOR books did for me was open my imagination and transport me to a fantasy world. I will always be a life long fan of the man and his work.
In the darkest part of Sherwoods glade, in the thickest part of the wood, there are those who say, can still be seen, the ghost of Robin Hood.
