I received this awl yesterday and it's going straight in my kit! Previously I just had a bookbinder's awl shoved in a cork, but I really think they are essential. I debated bringing anything but a pocket sewing kit when I went for a three day camp at the end of last October l, but if I had and if I hadn't had my awl to go with the sinew in that sewing kit I'd have been without footwear in near-freezing, soaking wet, drizzling and muddy conditions. So now I always will if I'm going overnight for sure.
The handle is beech, and it's stored in a hollowed out maple shoot, glued in with pitch it looks like.
Awl

Re: Awl
Nice, I see it has a flat on the side to stop it rolling of the bench, a very useful feature
Gimli: It's true you don't see many Dwarf-women. And in fact, they are so alike in voice and appearance, that they are often mistaken for Dwarf-men.
Aragorn: It's the beards.

And to keep it flatter wherever it's packed!
I got mine as part of a Patreon reward thing, I don't think they're publically available unfortunately

Wow! That's a pretty cool reward! Is it a leather-worker's Patreon?Sorrel wrote:And to keep it flatter wherever it's packed!
